I'm back bitchachos!!

AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE A GATSBY PARTY BECAUSE HOLY SHIT SOMEONE WAS JUST SHOT.

Obviously I'm a little rusty on the html front. Oh well.

So I guess you're probably wondering, 'Misty, what the hell is up with that quote anyway?' Well my friends, it's because we're about to embark on a most delightful journey. WE'RE IN THE NEW ROARING TWENTIES, Y'ALL!!!

you bet your sweet Leo-lovin' ass we are

I've been waiting for a new decade for a few years now. I know I keep saying that everything's been this giant dumpster fire, but really, it's been more of a controlled dumpster fire. As in, most of things that I've been complaining about have been under my control. I'd take one step forward and then immediately fall on my ass. Some days I felt like I didn't really have a lot of drive and/or will power, but then other days I would feel like I'm going to accomplish all of my life goals in one weekend. I was all over the damn place.

Basically, this weird purgatory of self-loathing, pity, and determination to do better is where I've been for the past 12 months. It's been SUPER FUN, y'all.

Buuuuuut, I've also been able to take some pretty big steps on the self-improvement front! I've somehow managed to look my depression and anxiety square in its face and say 'go eff yourself, because we're done here.' I started therapy back in September, and believe me when I say, it's life-changing. My therapist is awesome, and she has already given me countless tools for me to work on everything. Even if you're merely considering going, GO. Just try it to see if you like it. Sometimes all you need is a different and new ear to listen and talk with you. In May, I OFFICIALLY graduated with my Associates of Arts from Lone Star. Aaaaand in the middle of December, I submitted my transcripts to the University of Houston-Downtown to see if everything would transfer and if I would be able to transfer period. It looks like I'm good to go, and I plan on applying right after the first of the year for the summer semester. I'm also changing my major from English to Technical Communications. I think that this will be a better fit for me, and it also will greatly increase my opportunities for job hunting once I graduate. I'm super excited about going back to school, which is something I never thought I'd say.

I remember when I turned 30 I kept saying that I was ready for a new decade. And, that's still the plan. The Roaring Twenties just sweetens the deal. It's also a new decade, but it's a new decade for everyone!!

Y'all stay safe for New Year's and let's make it the best decade ever!!

Hoo Boy. Was this a year. A review of 2018.

Remember back in January of 2018 where I dedicated my post to the dumpster fires that have been the last few years? Well, this past year was no exception. The world's still mostly shit, and I'm in the middle of what I'm certain is an existential crisis. So it's easy to say that it was a GREAT year. *sarcasm*

I mean, that's not to say that I haven't had some high points, but I didn't have that many. So when I start to look back and reflect, all I see is depression and a lost sense of direction. I've been trying to figure out what I can do improve and it hasn't been easy. I'm a creature of habit, but not in the way that would make my life successful. I'm a procrastinator, I'm messy and unorganized. That is my habit.

I'm going to start with the heavy stuff and get it out the way. On Friday, September 7th, mom and I made the incredibly difficult decision to say goodbye to Leia, our 16 year Boston Terrier. It was an extremely surreal experience that I'm not sure that I would want to go through again. It was, however, the best decision for her. Her quality of life had dramatically decreased over the last few months of her life, and it was time. I cried and cried and cried for days afterwards, because she wasn't there when I woke up, she wasn't there at the door when I got home, and she wasn't there for Ein to kiss. He was very confused for a few days afterwards, but he seems to be okay so far. He does sleep with her blanket quite often.

Christmas was particularly rough for me, because as I was going through bins and getting out decorations, I would find little things that were hers, like stockings, Boston-themed decorations and her sweaters. Thankfully, Ian was there to pick me up off of the floor because I was in a puddle of tears. I'm getting better, but every once in a while, something will trigger me and I just melt down. She came into my life right as my parents were separating, so she was there for me even when she didn't realize that she needed to be. Just having her around was usually enough for me. There is a fairly large hole in my heart that belonged to her, and still does, but not having her physically here is what keeps it fresh and bleeding. Always hug your fur babies tight, and give them all the love you can give.

There were a few other deaths that heavily impacted my year, but hers was by far the impactful. I do have a post outlined about death and dying, which I do want to publish sometime this year, and I'll be sure to place the appropriate warnings. For some reason (for me at least), I find death to be fascinating. It is inevitable, yet we do everything in our power to prevent it or slow down the process. It will either shake us right to the core of our being, or it will pass us by like a feather on the wind. When a death ends up effecting us more than we were expecting and vice versa. It just piques my interest.

I guess I just feel like there were a lot more setbacks than breakthroughs. Murphy's Law was in full effect, and it was relentless. I was working with my doctor to figure out the best medicine for my anxiety and depression, so that caused a LOT of emotional ups and downs. I bailed on friends more times to count because of this. Work was stressful, and Ian and I were trying to figure out where we stood in our relationship. Like I said, a LOT. I lived vicariously through friends who had a super successful and happy year, and cheered them on from the sidelines. To say I wasn't jealous would be lying, but I was extremely glad and proud of them for all they accomplished through the year. My frans are movin' on up, y'all!

I might as well close up this post with the stereotypical 'Goals for 2019' section. I don't really care for calling them 'resolutions,' because I feel that by doing so, the stigma surrounding it automatically sets the person up for failure. 'Goals' is a much better word to use. You're usually making a lifestyle change, so it's better to have mini-goals throughout your path to get to your final goal (if there is one!). If there's any particular goal that you're not sure how to get started on, or need some advice and/or motivation, I'm here to listen and help. I'll be glad to go for a walk or share my planner stickers with you! You can do this!!

So, in no particular order, here are my goals for 2019:

-Start hunkering down and paying off debt- I plan on using the snowball method, and also seriously cut back on unnecessary spending.

-Lose 40 lbs by eating better, exercising, and working on mindfulness to help alleviate stress and anxiety. Ian got me a Gravity Blanket for Christmas and it is LIFE CHANGING.

-Self Care. All the damn self care. I tried meditating a few times last year, and really felt like it helped me, so I'm going to try to do this more often.

-Get a Planner and actually keep up with the damn thing. I was at about 60% last year, so I'm really hoping to up that percentage this year.

-Reading. I want to rediscover my love for reading this year. I want to sit down and really think about my favorites and also why I've been getting burnt out faster than I normally do.

Thanks for reading all of my jibba jabba y'all. Let's make this last year of the Teens count. Because we're heading in to the New Roaring Twenties, and you best believe that there ain't no party like a Gatsby Party!!

I mean, did y'all really think that I would talk about Gatsby and not include Bae?

Thursday Morning Musings.

I feel like every time I start to get the urge to write is when it is most inconvenient to me. It strikes when I'm depressed, when I'm bogged down and busy, sick, etc. It's extremely frustrating because I know that I have it in me. I try to strike when the iron is hot, but sometimes I forget to wear heat-proof gloves and then I'm out nursing a toasted hand. Not sure which part of the body belongs to the metaphorical hand, but it's sizzlin' like bacon regardless. Right now, I can't guarantee how long this streak will last, but I am going to ride it out for as long as possible. There are so many ideas in here that I can't seem to keep them straight, but I want to get them out so they can grow and become what they are meant to be.

I'm reading everything under the sun right now. For some reason I thought that subjecting myself to 4 different reading challenges for 2018 was a great idea; I think I've only stuck to one. Womp. I do love a good reading challenge, however- it makes me read outside of my comfort zone (which is surprisingly large) and discover new worlds. I do plan on doing a handful of reviews towards the middle of the year and near the end. Both good and bad will be included, because I already have several DNFs on my list. SO BAD.

My schedule is particularly crazy for the next few weeks, so while I may not be on here, I am still getting things down in my paper journal. I have found that quite therapeutic recently. Summer Reading is upon us, and I must go.

Until next time.

This .gif if the only reason for this post. It encapsulates everything about what I want to accomplish in 2018.

ERMAHGERD. SNERR DAY! H-Town Icepocalypse 2018

We had 2 snow days. Should've been Ice Days

As I started writing this post, it was 17 degrees. IT WAS WARMER IN ALASKA. WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK. But now, we are in the clutches of Snerr Day number 2. I use the term snow loosely. It snowed for all of 30 minutes yesterday and that was all. It's been ice and sleet the whole time. Ian and I journeyed out yesterday to Target and Whataburger. There were only a few places open for business, so it was slim pickins. I took a few pictures, but not that many. Ice looks the same no matter how many times you take pictures! Here are a few videos and a picture that I took:

This is ice on the curb near the cars. It looked like this all over, then it eventually turned to slush. then ice again. It wasn't too difficult to walk on, which was nice, because I had prepared myself for the inevitable. I just knew that I was going to slip and bust my ass. Some places had salt sprinkled on their walkways or available for people to use to get traction on their cars. We had ice on windows about a 1/16 of an inch thick, and the doors were almost frozen shut. It took us a while to get enough ice off just to be able to see out of the windows! It's times like these where I wish that we had a house with a garage! Just pull right out and not have to deal with the aftermath of the elements. One day. Until then, trusty credit card scraper to the rescue! It was great seeing all the different methods us South Texans used to get the ice off of our vehicles. Spatulas, vodka, credit cards, you name it; we used it.

The videos below are ones that I had made to send to my mom, but I think only one made it to her. The first one is when we ventured out to check the conditions and to get food. Our power had just went out, but was only out for roughly 20 minutes. The second one is when we were on our way home, and we saw that it was snowing super hard. Unfortunately, since it was still very wet and sleeting most of the time, the snow didn't stick like it did the last time. I also just realized that I never did a post for that day either! That day was incredible. I couldn't get over how beautiful everything looked. Even our apartment gates were beautiful!! But I digress...

Our water went out for about 4 hours today, right when I wanted to do laundry and take a shower. Luckily, it came back on, albeit being rusty. We're back at it again, making good use of this snow, er, ice day!

Ya'll stay warm out there!

Here's to the dumpster fire that was 2016. Wait. 2017. Wait. WHAT.

via GIPHY

Sing it with me y'all. I'm on a HIIIGGHHHHWAAY TO HELL

Wow. What a year. Not only just for me, but the world. I tried watching highlight videos of 2017 events, and while they tried to have 50/50 happy/sad events, it was still overwhelming. I myself didn't have the best year. Don't get me wrong, I have happy moments too, but overall, it just felt meh. And yes, meh is a feeling.

I'm hoping that this year is better. Not just for me, but for everyone. The world. I know that's a stretch, but I want to it to happen. Even the assholes. Maybe they won't be such assholes. I dunno. Here's hoping! But as for me, I want to improve my mental health. Self care is going to be a big goal for me this year. I feel better than I have before in the past 2 years, and I can sense a change in myself. I want to do things for myself. I have a drive to do things that i haven't done in quite some time. I'm excited to see what I'll be able to accomplish and keep climbing out of the darkness. I'm ready. Depression is something that I don't normally talk about here, but it is something that I'll talk about in person. I've always been open about my struggles, even when I didn't know exactly what was wrong. After being diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and informally with depression, I was able to sit down and recognize the issues that I have been dealing with and what I can do the change my situation.

I find that I let myself get extremely overwhelmed too often which caused me to get frustrated and then i just shut down. It hasn't been a great time. I make up excuses to everything and anyone as to why I can't do something. It's a shitty thing to do, and I'm not proud of myself for doing it, but it was what my brain would allow me to do. I've been in this tug of war with my psyche and it been utter shit and I can't do it anymore. It's physically and mentally exhausting. I'm saying all of this for any sort of sympathy, but to bring awareness that this does happen, and that you can and will breath again. It will be OKAY. Please reach out, even if it's for just for information, and don't let anyone tell you that you don't need help. That's what happened to me. I had to swallow my issues for YEARS because of one person, and I hope to live to see the day that no one has to suffer from other people's ignorance. The stigma that still hovers over mental illness is ludicrous. It makes no sense. but of course, if you admit defeat, you're weak. And that's bullshit. You are strong. You are amazing. And you are worth it.

Yes, I know it's Stewart, but this is exactly what I want to express.

Now I realize that this post took a left turn at Albuquerque and didn't look back, but I'm leaving it this way. Because 2016 and 2017 were fucking dumpster fires.

MIDDY OUT.

Ways to make your boyfriend question your relationship #19

While Ian and I were at Fuzzy's Taco Shop for dinner, I was looking over Facebook while he was finishing dinner. I found a future releases list from Funko, and saw that they're making SNL pops. More importantly, Stefan, David S. Pumpkins (Insta-buy), and Will Ferrell BOC Cowbell guy. Most importantly, a 2-pack of...

DICK IN A BOX!!!

I don't know about you guys, but that's the perfect Christmas decoration! They can hang out next to my Christmas Vacation ones. Anyhoo, back to Way #19, as soon as I said out loud that Funko was making those pops, I immediately sang the entire Dick in a Box song. Like, the whole thing, complete with hand gestures and dance moves (whilst sitting). He just stared at me the whole time, and I just kept on going. When it was over, I asked, "Questioning being with me right now?" He replied with this half smile/half shrug laugh. Works for me! I had a great time singing the song. It's a classic!

In case anyone forgot how it goes:

Sorry for the shitty quality

Sidebar: For some reason, the video isn't on YouTube, so I had to flat out Google it. Lemme tell you how glad I was when I remembered to put 'SNL' in front of the search terms. I think that just searching "Dick in a box" would have turned out quite differently. *shudders*

Hope y'all had a great holiday season, and hopefully I'll be back with more ways to make your boyfriend question your relationship!

Penny for your thoughts?

THIS. DAMN. VIDEO. IS. STUPENDOUS.

I can't stop watching. YOU'RE A PSYCHO WIENER!

This one too:

Who knew that Biggie and Thomas would mesh so well together. Some straight up ebony and ivory shit.

Hooooookay. I'm halfway wanting to do a post where I just put my favorite youtube videos and talk about how awesome your life will become should you watch. Ian and I spend our evening watching channels that we have subscribed to, and then we'll get sucked into a hole where we'll discover that it's 10 pm and WHAT HAVE WE DONE WITH OUR LIVES?! It's really bad. I'll try to read, but nope, here comes someone trying to jump a homemade ramp on their bike and all hell breaks loose. WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING?!? It's the tailbone ones that get me. As someone who has a fucked up tailbone, I would know the pain that occurs when you fall, and upcoming pain that WILL LAST FOREVER. Ugh. I have to have a seat cushion at my desk because I can't sit for long periods at a time. Shout out to Purple for making seat cushions out of the polymer that they used to make our mattress. Woo! Speaking of Purple mattresses, it's been about 3 weeks since we got that baby, and sleeping has never been better! I can't highly recommend their products enough. I've been making a progress video, so once our 100 nights are up, I'll edit and post the video!

Now run, run, run, jump. I can be a backpack while you run! Now run, run, run, now STOP! Know what that's from? No? Then you didn't watch the video. SHAME ON YOU. Go watch it. Right meow. I'll wait.

That moment when you realize that 2017 is already 7 days in and you've only shown up for 5...

HAY YOU GUIIISSSEEEEE!!!!! HAY!!

I haven't been here in a while, and that's mostly because I had to will to write. I would jot things down, but could never get them to fully manifest. It was getting frustrating, so I just stopped trying to make myself log on to the blog and write. I tried to focus on other things that were plaguing me and worked on those instead. Needless to say, I was able to get it together in those aspects of life and found my spark once again. I'm also sitting on 2 ideas for videos, so I may do those as well. But I parked my fat ass on those and I haven't really budged, so don't hold your breath!

I searched "waves" on Giphy for a *waves* gif, and it went horribly right. TAKE US TO CHURCH, LA-TREEEEIIICE ROY-AL!

Oh, almost forgot. I owe y'all an explanation of the title. Long story short, I got sick last Thursday (the 29th) and was pretty much man down through the holiday and into the New Year. Womp Womp. Mind you, it was just a regular, run-of-the-mill cold, but that shit sucks and it knocks you on your ass. I tried to go to one of those RediClinc-type things on Monday, only to be told that it was appointment only and the last appointments would be around 7:30 P.M. My sick ass stayed home and went to my regular doctor at 9:30 in the morning the next day. I got antibiotics since it did develop into an infection (so much phlegm!) and steroids. That shit is working like a champ. I don't feel like my brain is trying to escape from my skull to alleviate the pressure. Oy. It was rough.

I don't know how many of y'all use Goodreads to track your reading lists, but I use it religiously, and I also enjoy doing their reading challenge each year. In 2016, my goal was 42, and I pretty much smashed the shit out of it, which is actually pretty unusual for me to be honest. For some reason, Goodreads won't let me see my 2016 total because they just started the 2017 challenge. This year my goal is 55, because I don't know. I'm to the point where I don't want to read quantity, but more quality. I did, however, read some shit that I thought would be spectacular and ended up being total shit (LOOKING AT YOU, BITCH PLANET). I know that this year will definitely be filled with more User Experience and Feminist-based books, which I'm looking forward to devouring and discussing. As always, recommendations for all the things are always welcome!

I have a few more things that I want to say, but I think it will be better off doing it in a separate post. Especially about Carrie. I'm still dealing with the death of one of my life heroes. She was more than just Leia to me. I mean, have you seen her urn? It speaks to me.

I mean, IT'S LITERALLY A GIANT PROZAC PILL.

Alright, I'm going to try to get some actual work done. Holla!

A salute to Summer Reading and the staff holdin' it down

I mentioned in my last post that the roller coaster Summer Reading has pulled into the loading dock for the next 3 months, so strap yourselves in, keep all arms and legs inside the cart, and enjoy the ride. Or, at least try to keep what's left of your sanity. Or try not to gain any if you are lacking in that department.

Pretty much how everyone feels and looks at the end of the day.

For those of you unfamiliar with Summer Reading, it's basically free activities that the library sponsors for people of all ages to enjoy throughout the summer. It gives parents and guardians a chance to get the stir-crazy summer vacay kids out of the house and moving. There are crafts, story times, numerous animal-themed programs, robotics/coding, and a whole bunch more! Don't forget, it's FREE! Also, please keep in mind that summer is THE busiest time for the library, with occupancy nearly doubling our normal numbers every day. So, if you miss out on a program because it was full, it's okay. It's not the end of the world, and trust me when I say this, the library staff is bummed out too. We don't like to see sad faces or hear sad cries. The best way to make sure that you and/or your child will get into the next program is to get there early! Read through the entire calendar beforehand to find out if a program is only allowing a certain number of people in, or if there is an age limit. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call your local library and ask. We want to you to come the programs, so we're going to help.

Here comes the thinly veiled not-so-friendly P.S.A. from the library worker:

Basically, we want you enjoy summer reading, and we know that there are a TON more kids and parents in the library so you are competing for tickets to get into the programs. But I will say this: If you don't get a ticket to a program, it is not the library's fault. We didn't hide them, we didn't skim a few for our friends, you just missed getting your ticket. Please do not throw a fit, yell, threaten to complain, etc.; because we've heard it all before. There is nothing we can do. We can't sneak you in or make an exception "just this one time." Trust me, when I say this, we've heard them all. So kindly stop badgering us. We don't want to here. 99% of the moms are extremely respectful and understanding, but there is always that one mom who is just an absolute raging bitch because her son couldn't get into pre-school storytime and that we need to adapt to the growing numbers over the summer (we do). Ugh. Please don't be that mom. Or dad. Or grandma. Or grandpa. Also, yes, we know it's louder in here, as there are 300% more kids in here. WE KNOW.

But seriously: Come to the lieberry! We have free shit! Your tax dollars pay for it, so take advantage!

The Incredible Saga of Middy and the Pork Chop.

Let's just open with this:

You're welcome.

Our story begins...

I love eating pork chops. I mean, I love pork in general, but I love me some pork chops. Especially when they're accompanied by rice & gravy and black eyed peas. Fun Fact: Rice and Gravy is my favorite food. It's a staple in Louisiana, and you'll be hard-pressed to find someone in Acadiana (Southwest Louisiana) who doesn't like it.

Literally every Cajun ever, when Maw-Maw or Momma makes Rice and Gravy. *Imagine that instead of Krabby Patties*

But back to the story. Ian is not a fan of certain pork cuts, like tenderloins or chops, but he'll eat bacon, sausage, and dumplings. He's from upstate New York, and Italian, so I feel like it's not his fault that he's a mutant. Long story short; I think I've had a ONE pork chop in the TWO years that we have been together. Let me repeat myself. ONE pork chop in TWO years. I miss eating them so much! They're so tasty! And they're usually served with my favorite food! I mean, I've had rice and gravy several times, so I'm not suffering from a drought in that department, but I'm missing my pork chops hella bad.

Then the most splendiferous thing happened...

I was out shopping with my mom, aunt, and uncle, when my mom stopped in the meat case and started looking at pork chops. She called me over and said. "Don't these look good? If I cook some on Monday, would you want some?!" I knew that she wasn't really asking if I wanted some, but that she was waiting to hear my reaction. Which was in true Middy fashion: "Hell yeah I'll eat some pork chops!" I was so excited that I was finally going to eat some chops. FINALLY.

My Aunt and Uncle were in town, so she cooked them this past Monday night. I work the late shift on Mondays, so Ian and I went over after work, visited with every one, as they were going back to Louisiana in the morning. I fixed myself a few containers of beans, a pork chop/gravy, and rice. I put them all in a bag and joyfully drove home knowing that I was going to make a pig out of myself during lunch the next day. We were also sent home with 2 gallon-sized bags of watermelon. Awwwwww yeah!

WATERMALONE!!!!

When we got home, I asked Ian to put away the food, which he did. I know that he had to make room for everything, because it's clean-out-the-fridge-time, and we were waiting until right before we move to clean. Anyhoo, we watched some tv, and went to bed. Ian was gone by 5:30 this morning, so I was left to my own devices in the morning. I showered, brushed my teeth, but my Summer Reading shirt on, and went into the kitchen to get my lunch. I. WAS. READY. I opened the door, pulled out one bag of watermelon to bring to work and started grab my containers, except they weren't where I thought they would be. So, I looked around some more. Nothing. Gone. I was like, "Where the fuck is my lunch?!?" I was pissed, because my food was gone. I turned around to walk away, and there it was. My bag of awesome deliciousness. ON THE COUNTER. HOT. UN-REFRIGERATED. Left out overnight. I literally went, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHO HO HO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO." Utter heartbreak. I texted my mom, and Ian. All caps. There was a lot of visual shouting. I was so fucking upset. All I wanted was to eat some fucking pork chops. IS IT THAT FUCKING HARD TO DO?!?!? NO! It's not. But apparently, when I try, it is. Because it's me. No pork chop for Middy. Womp Womp.

This was me this morning

However, this story does have a happy ending. Luckily, my mom had ONE MORE EXTRA PORK CHOP, which I will be picking up as soon as I get off of work. I AM SO EXCITED TO EAT MY DAMN PORK CHOP.

fin.

Thoughts on a Saturday.

So, I know it's been a while since I've actually posted something for me, and to be honest, I was in a slump. Good 'ol depression strikes again. I was extremely stressed out at work because of a big inventory project that took 2 and a half months to complete. It was A LOT. And, Ian and I were in the process of finding, applying, and signing for an apartment. I was stuffed to my gills with stress. My anxiety was riding high, so most of the time, I stayed home and didn't go anywhere. Or talk to anyone. But, I am happy to announce that I finished the project and our move-in date is the near the end of June. Woo hoo! I'm extremely excited about our new place. I get a pantry! YAAASSSSS. I know that is a small thing, but it's a big thing to me! We just have a ton of cabinets at out current place, so everything has a spot. But still. Pantry. PAAANNNTTTRRRYYYYYY!!!!! But I digress...

Oh google search, you never let me down

I mean, I'm also getting a patio as well, which is HUGE, and I'm ecstatic about chillin' on that bad boy. It's also a 2 bedroom, which means Ian gets a WHOLE ROOM to himself to keep and display his collection. I'm going to attempt to decorate in an adult style, but let's be real for a minute; we know that's not going to happen. But I am going to half-ass it like the best of them. But I am really looking forward to a new location, a new environment, and mostly, a new home.

I found out a few days ago that my trip to Wisconsin for a library conference will be fully funded by library organizations, and I couldn't be more thrilled. I think this will a better conference than the last time, annnnd I get to go with one of my frands from my old branch!! Aww yiss. We're taking precautions this time to make sure that we don't get in Madison at 10 pm like I did the last time I went. I HAD TO TAKE THE BUS BECAUSE MY FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED. #firstworldproblems

The almighty Summer Reading Program is among us, and we're just wrapping up the first week today. For those of you that don't know what summer reading is like, take retail at Christmas, and that's summer for libraries. Yelling & screaming kids, angry & impatient parents, tired & exhausted workers, etc. IT'S THE SAME. Seriously, when I got home from work yesterday, I immediately laid down on the couch and fell asleep. Ian had to wake me up so that we could go out for dinner. So exhausted. The first week is one of the easiest ones too, because a lot of families opt to go on vacation the first week of summer. You always say that you're ready and to bring it the fuck on, but you're never fully ready. There's always something that happens, an extra 100 books get returned, you're down a worker, etc. All you can do is make the best of it and if you do, drink. But don't drink to the point of a hangover, because if you call in the next day, you're an asshole, and everyone will hate you for at least 2 days. Don't be that person.

When storytime has to be 20 ft away from the front desk because Art Camp is in the meeting room. NOT OKAY.

Thanks to a totally awesome coworker, I was inspired to read R.L. Stine books this summer. I already have a few in the bag, so I'll have to review them and get those posts up to y'all can experience your youth allll over again. I have been having a blast reading these; they're a quick read, and they have just enough humor and suspense to keep you going. One of my favorites is I saw you last night!. The cover is fantastic, and I'm 99% sure that I bought that one based on the cover alone. Who remembers B. Dalton bookstore? Once a month, my mom would take me to the mall so that I could go the B. Dalton's and buy new Goosebumps and other books. Awesome memories. I read one called Twisted, which I remember reading in bits and pieces because it belonged to my older cousins and I was a liiiittle to young to be reading about kids in college! I'll be sharing my thoughts about them soon. Well, as soon as I can grab a moment to write, because all we're doing right now is packing! Gah!

IT'S SO AMAZING AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!

Alrighty then, I think that's it for now! Hollah!

After ten years in the NFL, superstar Gray Fowler is accustomed to obsessive fans. But when Gray starts receiving death threats from a stalker, his team hires an executive protection agency to guard him until the culprit is caught. Dealing with bodyguards 24/7 is a headache, especially when one of them is a young, beautiful woman. How can a female half his size possibly protect him better than he can protect himself?  Dru Porter is a former Marine, an expert markswoman, and a black belt--none of which saved her from disaster on her last assignment. In order to rebuild her tarnished reputation, she's determined to find Gray's stalker and, since relationships between agents and clients are forbidden, avoid a romantic attachment between herself and the rugged football player with the mysterious past.
Yet every secret that leads Dru closer to the stalker also draws her closer to Gray. As the danger escalates, they'll survive only if they can learn to trust their lives—and their hearts—to one another.
Praise for Her One and Only
"Down-to-earth, in-depth characters give the story an authentic feel. Dru, being the youngest Porter, is headstrong and sympathetic, and when she matches wits with Gray, their connection is as electric as their budding romance is sweet. A delightful read."—RT Book Reviews

Her One and Only closes out Wade's Porter family series and I must say, I wish I had read the series in order. And not because I was completely lost (this can be considered stand-alone-ish), but because I missed out on getting to know the rest of the Porter clan. Dru, being the youngest and only girl of the Porter siblings, has something to prove. Gray Fowler, on the other hand, is a NFL superstar. Dru becomes Gray's bodyguard, oh I'm sorry, Executive Protection Agent after a series of threatening letters are sent to him, each one more serious than the last.

The banter between Dru and Gray is believable, as are Dru's family and Gray's friends. Being a christian romance, I was pleasantly surprised by the the way Wade set the tone. But I have to be honest here. The main reason why I loved this book? Dru Porter. Strong and resourceful, she is character that I admired from the get-go and continued to grow as I read the book. I would like to see a short story collection of Dru's other clients. Wade's writing is great, it's balanced throughout the entire book. I would definitely recommend this series to patrons and personal friends alike. I myself will be going back and reading the series from book one, Undeniably Yours

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
